****Educational Scholarship Program to be launched August 2022****
Each High School Student seeking to attend college can apply for the “Juanita Virginia Brown Educational Scholarship”. This scholarship is awarded to students to meet the requirements of the application package and confirms their acceptance into an accredited college of higher learning. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
– Applicants must be graduating from an accredited educational institution.
– Applicants must have applied for admission into at least one accredited institution of higher learning for the Fall of designated school term.
– Applicant must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.
– Applicant must provide at least two recommendations. Recommendations can be from the following: an academic Counselor of the current school, community organization, church or employer.
– Applicant must reside within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
QUALIFYING COMPETITIVE FACTORS
An essay written on one of the following topics:
– My chosen field of study is … because …
– How my community, church, or family has influence me?
– Why it is important for me to attend college?
Failure to address one of the specified topics disqualifies the essay. The essay must be 450 to 700 words, typed and doubled-spaced. Essays will be rated on content, depth, grammar, organization and originality.
Applicant will participate in a personal interview consisting of oral presentation of essay and a question/answer session if you meet all of the requirements as specified.
Incomplete packages will not be considered.

Juanita Virginia Brown
This is Juanita Virginia Williams-Brown. This scholarship is named after this extraordinary women who moved to the D.C. from Aimesville, Virginia in 1950 with three children and a dream. She wedded John Lover Brown from Hume, Virginia and later had 5 additional children. She was a stay at home mom who raised her children with all that she had and was a devoted wife. This scholarship is named after her because she never stopped teaching, disciplining, encouraging, feeding, clothing, providing shelter, sharing her limited finances and most importantly her love. She raised 8 children of her own and countless others who she took in as her own. Her home was an open door for those who needed shelter and food. Her wisdom imparted into her children the strength to know that “God made you and that’s enough”, “One monkey don’t stop the show”, Be yourself or be by yourself”, “You can do anything you put your mind too”, “Do not take any wooden nickels”, “Be your own boss” and many more! In honor of this extraordinary women we named this scholarship, so that the spirit that rests on her will be imparted into every recipient of the the grant and they too may remember the attributes of Juanita Virginia Williams Brown and pay it forward to those they may encounter in their successful completion of college and full and rewarding life.
